Oct. 13, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz said on Monday that its China unit sold a total of 44,300 vehicles in the country in the first nine months of the year, representing a year-on-year growth of 52%.
In September alone, vehicles sales rose 62% year on year to 6,500 units, including brands of Mercedes-Benz, Smart minicar and Maybach, the German auto maker said in a statement, without giving any comparative figures.
C-Class sedans produced in China became the company's best-selling model, with 11,300 units sold during the period.
In August, the auto maker launched the ninth generation of its flagship S-Class luxury sedans in Beijing, in a bid to maintain its leading position in the luxury car segment in the country.
China has become the largest S-Class market in the world since the first quarter of this year, and the flagship model continued to lead China's top luxury segment, said Klaus Maier, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd, at the event to mark the launch.
